Despite the war

Despite her advanced age and the destruction and mourning caused by the war, Elena continued to work tirelessly, always ready to help launch new projects, in a constant effort of charity and creativity despite political censorship and economic difficulties. Above all, her aim was to alleviate the suffering of those most affected by the war. So, when, starting in 1943, her family home at Affi was once again occupied by soldiers and full of displaced people, she gave everyone a warm welcome. Among the reasons for her personal suffering was the death of two FRA members due to aerial bombing. From 1943, she suffered from a heart condition. At the beginning of 1945, she was hospitalised for severe anaemia, mainly due to malnutrition.
